Fast and furious

WITHOUT even trying, local rally car driver Nathan Quinn improves his times by four seconds every time he gets behind the wheel of his new 4WD turbo charged beast.

Compared to his old 1970 Mazda RX2, Quinn's new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 5 is four seconds quicker off the start line, meaning that if Quinn was taking part in a rally with 10 stages, he'd automatically make up 40 seconds without changing a thing.

Excited by what he's produced in testing, the 21-year-old gets to find out what his pride and joy can produce under race conditions this weekend.

This weekend Quinn and his team are off to Rockhampton for a round of the Queensland State Championship and the team is hoping that the cars pedigree will set them on their way.

"The car was originally owned by world championship competitor Chris Atkinson who is now driving for Team Subaru," the young driver said.

"It's strong and reliable and we're hoping it can do for us what it has done for Chris."

After Rockhampton, Quinn has his eyes firmly set on the Coffs Harbour Rally next month.
