EnviTE awarded for green work

ONE local environmental 'warrior' has been recognised for their ongoing conservation and environmental restoration work.

Environmental Training & Employment Inc (EnviTE) has won the Environment and Landcare Award category of the 2006 Regional Achievement and Community Awards for NSW and ACT, announced recently in Dubbo.

The award gives recognition to individuals and organisations who show a proven passion and dedication to reducing environmental impacts in rural and regional areas.

By implementing environmental restoration projects between Tweed Heads and Coffs Harbour, EnviTE has raised awareness, knowledge and understanding of the natural environment.

EnviTE was founded in 1993 to assist volunteer community groups, landholders and others to implement quality environmental restoration projects.

EnviTE currently employs more than 60 highly trained and qualified staff experienced in project management, plan- ning and implementation of on-ground environmental restoration works.

In the past year, EnviTE has worked with 360 organisations from the Tweed to Bellingen and has carried out works on approximately 430 sites.

EnviTE receives no core funding and submits grants and tenders applications for a range of funding which can be used to achieve positive environmental outcomes.

The company works with local com- munities, landcare groups, land managers and government agencies.

EnviTE manages Natural Heritage Trust, NSW Environmental Trust and Envirofund grants and contracts, Work for the Dole and Green Corps projects.
