Emma?s on a roll

LOCAL golfer Emma de Groot has continued with her recent run of hot form to street the field on the weekend in the Qantaslink Amateur Ladies Classic at Bonville International Golf Resort.
Heading into the final day of the 36-hole event, de Groot held a four-shot lead over her nearest rivals and stretched that to a massive 11-shot victory at the end of the Classic by shooting a one-under par 72 on the Sunday.
Left in her wake was 17-year-old Gemma Lyon from the Australian Golf Club who added the Junior Division title to her runner-up prize.
de Groot won the junior title herself at this event for the past two years and is now the first player to win both the junior and senior trophies in the Ladies Classic.
Bonville's Kay Gam easily won in Division two ahead of club-mate Janette Curran.
The home club dominated the lower divisions as well with Kay Sinderberry winning division three and Michelle Smith winning in Division four.
Channel Nine presenter Kerri-Anne Kennerley was a member of the 181 strong field for the sixth time in the 10-year history of the event and maybe she was buoyed by her victory as the gross winner on the second day but she couldn't praise the event or the course enough.
"Quite truly this is one of the finest golf courses in the world and it's a good fun weekend with some great girls," she said.
"It's a challenge, it's only the second year that I've played stroke and this is a tough course, there's a lot of trouble out there but it's a great way to spend a weekend."
