Ellen completes collection

By BRAD GREENSHIELDS

IT WAS Plutarch who wrote of Alexander the Great, 'When he saw the breadth of his domain, he wept for there were no more worlds to conquer.'

The latest Sawtell women's bowling club major singles champion, Ellen Holland, could almost be forgiven for allowing herself to indulge in a similar moment of ego but most will guarantee she won't.

By winning her club's singles title, Holland has now collected a full set of titles having won at various stages over the last 10 years the club's fours, triples, pairs and now singles championship.

Like Alexander conquered all of Persia, there is nothing left at Sawtell for Holland to claim.

This doesn't mean that she'll be resting on her laurels as she now has her eye on competing in the champion of champions competitions in the future.

"I won't be doing that this year, I'll be waiting until next year," she said.

"I'm having my foot operated on so I'll give it a rest for three or four months after that."

While Holland is quietly proud of her own achievements, she'd rather talk about the health of the club overall as the source of her greatest pride.

"The club's doing extremely well at the moment," she said.

"The men have done well in the pennants and the club is strong overall.

"There's some good bowlers coming out of Sawtell now and the club is prospering."
