Elderly couple escape serious injury

An elderly couple had to be freed from their Commodore after it ran off the Pacific Highway at Moonee yesterday afternoon. Emergency crews were called to the single vehicle smash, 300m south of Bucca Road, at 3.15pm. The southbound car veered off the eastern side of the road and down an embankment. Luckily, the roadside was recently cleared of trees and other vegetation. SES officers stabilised the car to ensure it didn't roll further down the hill as ambulance officers treated the pair inside. The woman, who was unable to get out of the wreck by herself because of an injured back, was eased from the front seat, put in a neckbrace and placed on a stretcher. The driver was helped out moments later, but he didn't appear to be injured. Highway lanes were blocked alternately during the emergency.
