Disappointing end to pennants charge

A DISAPPOINTING weekend was had by local bowlers chasing glory at the BCiB State Pennants Finals.

Matches were played in in less than ideal conditions thanks to the heavy rain that fell both before and during competition but the two pennants teams from the area who progressed through the zone competition failed to reach the semi-final stage of their respective groups.

At South Lismore, Park Beach's Pennants 4 team got their weekend off to a flying start defeating Western Suburbs Leagues in a 62-61 thriller then trouncing Gundagai 68-47.

In the final section game, Park Beach faced Huskisson, the other undefeated team in the section.

The winner progressed through to the final four in the state and disappointingly for local hopes, Huskisson managed to draw away to a 62-51 victory.

If there was to be some consolation for Park Beach, it was that the Zone 7 club won the state title defeating Evans Head 51-47.

Sawtell's Pennant 6 team got off to a solid start at Bulli but suffered a heart-breaking loss in their opening match, falling just three shots behind Bargo.

A defeat of North Manly in the second match kept them in the hunt but they faced a must-win affair against the undefeated Riverview to progress through to semi-final stage.

Victory was gained 64-54 but unfortunately Riverview made it to the next level on for and against.
