Cups are running over

NAMBUCCA'S Jenny Frost is on a mission to collect as many old bras as possible and swap them for dollars to raise funds for cancer research.

"I first got involved in cancer fundraising three years ago when I had a 'Girls Night In' at my place," Ms Frost said.

"I heard then that Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast was offering a dollar of their profits for every old bra collected, so I decided to link the two events.

"That first year we had 400 bras, last year it was up to 4250 and this year we have already passed the 8000 mark.

"The response has been astonishing!"

It has not, however, been a one-woman crusade.

Karen Beazley from Valla has been leaving pink boxes at outlets from Woolgoolga to Kemspey to Dubbo.

"Westpac outlets have been the drop off points but that's not easy for everyone, so I had the idea of getting old boxes from the bottle shop, painting them pink and taking them to any businesses who were willing to collect bras," Ms Beazley said.

"I have family out west, so I spread them out that way, too.

"Everyone calls me 'The Bra Lady' now but I don't mind."

Now the hope is to reach the magic 10,000 mark.
