Cricketers into gear

CRICKETERS across the Coffs Coast have taken their flannels out of moth balls and dusted off the willow, with the 2004-2005 season starting this weekend.

However, registration numbers are still causing some concern for most clubs. Clubs are hoping players are following their usual trend of waiting until the last minute to register with clubs.

"Numbers are a bit down across all clubs, but the feedback has been positive," Coffs Harbour and District Cricket Association (CHDCA) publicity officer Matt Rose said yesterday.

"If all the players could get down to their respective clubs and actually fill-in the sign on forms, it would help a lot.

"Clubs need to know numbers so they can register teams and the Association can organise grounds.

"It is not too late to sign-up yet, but clubs need to know straight away if people are going to play."

This season, the CHDCA has welcomed a new team, the Hoey Moey, to third and fourth grade.

CHCA round one draw.

First grade: Nana Glen v Diggers Ex-Services at Brelsford Park, Sawtell v Park Beach Bowling Club Colts at Richardson Park, Coffs Hotel Tigers v Bellingen District at Fitzroy Oval.

Second grade: Diggers Ex-Services v Nana Glen at Forsythe, Northern Districts v West Coffs at High Street Fields (Woolgoolga), Sawtell v PBBC Colts Richardson Park No. 2.

Third grade: Bellingen District v Diggers Ex-Services at Connell Park No. 1, West Coffs v Hoey Moey at Reg Ryan Oval, PBBC Colts v Sawtell at Englands Oval.

Fourth grade: Northern Districts v West Coffs at Marshalls complex, Sawtell v Diggers Ex-Services at Toormina Oval, Nana Glen v PBBC at Nana Glen, Hoey Moey v Bellingen at Jetty Oval.
