Couzens in gutsy move
Stories By CHRISMcKINLEY
COMING into the game with a doubt about his injured ankle didn't seem to bother Mark Couzens on Saturday as he steered Sawtell to a 52 point victory.
Next in line of Saints victims was Grafton who tried hard, but eventually in vain.
Couzens was awesome roaming around the forward line as the major target and he collected eight goals in the individual performance of the week.
Sawtell actually could've won by more but poor kicking for goal, particularly in the second and third terms, let them down badly.
For Grafton, the best players were the usual suspects.
Shaun Purton was a fine contributor despite playing in an unusual role for him.
Purton is normally one of the main goal kickers for the Tigers, but on Saturday he handled the full back position with aplomb.
Scott Onus played well, as did Wes Seewald while Warren Bagnall as always tried hard in the middle.
But Bagnell was without much support in the middle and found himself outgunned by Jai Hardy and Damien James.
James has been in the best for Sawtell over the past few games in the midfield and may be the danger man come finals time if he continues to slip underneath the opposition's radar.
Again a Sawtell and Grafton match had an ugly incident in the final quarter.
Like the earlier affair, the last quarter erupted and had players from both sides spending the evening in hospital nursing concussion as well as cuts and bruises.
Sawtell have asked for an investigation to be made into the incident so this is by no means the last that anyone will hear about it.
