Counting down the days

BOAMBEE footballers Jess Barrett and Sam Taylor are counting down the days until they head Stateside to chase player scholarships.
The girls depart January 19 for Savannah, Georgia, on a pathway provided by The Football Institute (TFI).
"Jess and Sam have been down on Sawtell Beach training in the sand," club coach Rob Manning said.
"We're all getting pretty excited as they get closer to flying out.
"But they're still in need of support to defray the cost of the trip and anybody who can assist can contact me on 0415 034 597."
Digby Reed, Director of TFI, believes both girls have the talent required to follow in the footsteps of Melissa Feuerriegel who is already on a full scholarship with SCAD College, Savannah.
"Along with Melissa we have two further TFI girls yet to take up offers," he said.
"Sam and Jess have both shown great commitment and maturity, are training hard, working on their fitness and ball mastering, which is exactly what the American Colleges are looking for.
"I think they'll perform well and impress a few scouts."
TFI have organised games in the United States and have invited coaches and representatives to view the girls while training and playing.
Jess and Sam go into camp on the Gold Coast three days prior to departure to prepare and acquaint themselves with the remaining 13 girls in the touring squad.
Other TFI tours during 2007 will visit New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom.
During April a residential camp will be conducted on the Gold Coast, attended by US College scouts and former Chelsea FC and World Cup player, Terry Phelan.
