Coffs to host nationals

COFFS HARBOUR will host the Australian Under 13 invitational hockey carnival for the first time this week. This event runs from Monday until Saturday with a rest day on Wednesday. Ten teams are participating in this year's event from New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Australian Capital Territory. Each State with the exception of Queensland has a team of boys and a team of girls participating. Coffs Harbour has a local representative, Matthew Harmon, who is playing in the New South Wales Waratahs team. Matthew was selected to play in this team after playing in the Under 13 representative squad in July earlier this year. The event will be held on the Pacific Bay Resort Hockey Turf located at Marshalls Sporting Complex, off Stadium Drive, Coffs Harbour. The first game commences on Monday at 8:30am and the opening ceremony will be held at 11:30am. The final day of play will be Saturday, the last game at 2:30pm, followed by the closing ceremony. The Australian Under 13 invitational carni- val commenced in the early 1980's and has now been running for more than 20 years. The purpose of this event is to provide young players from all States of Australia with the opportunity to experience playing representative hockey for their State. This enables them to gain and further enhance their hockey knowledge. They lean protocols, sportsmanship and self discipline. The carnival has grown in size and stature since it first began.
