Coffs to host ING Cup game

COFFS Harbour may be celebrating the new year period by watching the world's greatest ever wicket taker strut his stuff at the International Stadium.

The local Sports Unit has delivered another high standard sporting contest to the region as the state's cricket team the Speed Blitz Blues will again be returning to Coffs Harbour for an ING Cup match, this time taking on the old enemy, Victoria.

The match will be held on January 14 and, as this fixture is after the Test series has been completed, potentially there is a long line of superstars that will take the field on this day.

The Speed Blitz Blues line-up could include Stuart MacGill, Brad Haddin and Nathan Bracken while the Bushranger's could have the great Shane Warne and Brad Hodge in their team.

Communication Manager from Cricket NSW Daniel McDougall says that despite the fact that the Blues are yet to win a game in Coffs Harbour, the team can't wait to return to the area.

"We're very excited to be coming back to the region," McDougall said.

"We think it's great that we can take the game to the regional areas as that's the philosophy we've been using.

"It's in the middle of the holiday season and we're hoping to get a big crowd there."

This is the third time that the NSW team will have played an ING Cup match in Coffs Harbour in the space of four years after previous matches against South Australia and Western Australia.

The team will be looking to turn around their poor record in Coffs Harbour and come away with a win against their oldest rival.

The fixture is actually part of a first-class cricket double header in the region as these two teams will also be playing a Pura Cup match in Lismore starting on January 16.
