CHRISTMAS FUN ENDS IN DEATH

A MOONEE Beach man, 41, has died after he was allegedly bashed early on Sunday.

Andrew William Walker was at a work Christmas party at a Moonee Beach home when he was allegedly assaulted at 12.35am.

Coffs Harbour detectives and Woolgoolga police attended the scene.

They later charged Grant Kelly Connelly, 35, of Woolgoolga, with maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Connelly appeared in Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday and was granted conditional bail to reappear in court on February 7.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Taylor said that after the alleged attack, Mr Walker was taken with head injuries to Coffs Harbour Health Campus.

He was transported by air ambulance the same day to Randwick's Prince of Wales Hospital.

Mr Walker, who was married with two teenage daughters, died about 3pm on Monday.

Detectives are continuing their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.

A post-mortem examination was being conducted yesterday at the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Glebe in Sydney.

The results were not available at the time of going to press last night.
