Century stand saves Coffs
An unbroken partnership of 121between Alex Byrne (60no) and Vikram Atwal (41 no) paved the way for Coffs Harbour's convincing win over Armidale in the opening round of the junior cricket representative season at Richardson Park, Sawtell on Saturday. Chasing 135 for victory, Coffs Harbour's innings started disastrously with the score at 2-6 in the third over. They were in more trouble when the third wicket fell in the ninth over leaving them at 3/18 and the top three batsman back in the dressing room. However, Byrne and Atwal joined forces and ensured a comprehensive victory in just 32 overs, the innings finishing at 3/139. Earlier in the day, good Coffs Harbour bowling backed with excellent ground fielding restricted Armidale to 7/134 after 50 overs. Bowling figures for Coffs Harbour were: Nathan O'conner: 8 overs, 3 maidens 1/25. Gurjot Thandi: 6 overs, 2 maidens 0/12. Jarrod Crawford: 5 overs, 0/21. Vikram Atwal: 4 overs, 1/14. Charles Laverty: 6 overs, 2 maidens , 1/12. Jamie Arthur: 4 overs, 1/7. Alex Byrne: 4 overs, 2 maidens, 1/3 also wicketkeeper for 34 overs. Tim Davies: 5 overs, 1 maiden, 2/9. Blake Miles: 4 overs, 0/16. Callum McGilvary: 4 overs, 1 maiden 0/6. Sundries were made up of two byes, two leg byes, seven wides and 10 no balls. Coffs Harbour and District Junior Cricket would like to thank the Coffs Harbour Umpire Association for providing the umpires for this intercity match which we hope to now turn into an annual match with up 120 parents and players coming for the weekend and also Arthur Smart for preparing Richardson Oval for the games to go ahead.
