Carr calls for better waste management

FORMER NSW State Premier Bob Carr blew into Coffs Harbour yesterday to deliver an apocylyptic message about global warming.

Carr said global warming is coming at us like an express train and we had better get ready to meet it, at the Waste 2007 Conference at Opal Cove.

The former NSW Premier was the keynote speaker at the first day of the 8th National Waste Management Conference yesterday and his message was grim but not hopeless.

He claimed climate change was happening much faster than predicted, with accelerated melting of polar ice sheets reported in recent months.

He said the major reports on which decisions were being based were already out of date, including the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
