Boys do want to dance

By UTE SCHULENBERG

PETER Stock has created something amazing.

A dance festival that brings young dancers from around the country and tutors from around the world together for 10 days every January to explore all manner of dance styles and have fun.

"It's the only festival of it's kind in the world, advocating for male dance," Mr Stock said.

What started out as a 'one off' ? 'getting a few guys together to teach boys dance' has now been going for nine years.

It is not only a fixture on the calendar of many families coming to holiday in Bellingen, but also an important fixture on the national dance calendar with participant numbers now in the hundreds.

"The main victories are the kids for whom the festival is the opening of something new ? I can think of about 100 kids that applies to," Mr Stock said.

He says the event has outgrown Bellingen and may well be moving in years to come, but for now 28 tutors are there and the students are keen. Performances every night, phone 6655 2472 to book.
