Bonville girls claim seventh state title
SUSTAINED success on the basketball court is starting to be taken as a given at the Christian Community College.
Competing in the combined catholic schools competition, the senior girls from the Bonville school claimed their seventh consecutive state title.
As coach of the both the senior boys and girls teams, teacher Scott Davies is still scratching his head a little about how to explain the senior girls extended run of success.
"It's very, very difficult obviously but in the girls team we've had a real influx of basketball families into the school," he said.
"With players like our captain Christie Coombes, Hayley Cassell, Sam Wilson and Kate and Sam Wallace, it's just been a real blessing that these girls have come to our school and wanted to be involved in sport."
The magical seventh title for the girls was wrapped up in the final against Oxford Falls.
The title decider started off tensely enough with nerves being shown by both teams but it was the Christian Community girls who settled into their rhythm first to set up victory.
"It was a fairly easy game compared to some of the round matches which were difficult," the coach added.
"In the finals the girls started gelling together and learning how to play with everyone.
"The final itself was a good game but in the end the margin got out to about 15 to 20 points."
