Blitz volunteers needed

WITH the NBL Blitz just 16 weeks away, Coffs Basketball is calling on all of those people who have offered to volunteer their time and expertise to the event to attend the first volunteers meeting.

The meeting will be held on Saturday at the meeting room of SportzCentral from 3pm - 4pm.

The Blitz will bring the 12 NBL teams into Coffs Harbour for four days from September 7-10.

It will be the first time Australians will get to see the new Singapore based team, and the newly formed South Melbourne Dragons.

And added to the excitement of having the best basketballers in Australian in Coffs Harbour, the world governing body, FIBA, have just announced that the Secretary General of FIBA, Patrick Baumann, who is based in Switzerland, will attend the Coffs Harbour Blitz as well.

At the representative parents meeting earlier in the year over 35 people put their name down to help, but with over 80 volunteers needed, we are hoping senior domestic players and players aged over 16 will come forward to support this event.

Altogether it is anticipated we will need 30 scorebench officials, 20 statisticians, 20 hospitality staff and 10 court staff.

Training will be provided in each area, with the scorebench and statisticians using the State league and NJL home games as practice events.

It is vitally important that the volunteers come along to this meeting so future training programs can be arranged and so we can see just how many volunteers we have.

Volunteers will be rostered onto games during the Blitz, which will run from September 7-9.

Volunteers will gain free entry to the games when they are not working and will be provided with a Blitz t-shirt to wear and keep as a moment of the event.

Off court arrangements have been underway for some months, with the Blitz organising committee having already finalised accommodation and meal bookings, additional seating hire and an event logo.

A professional cheerleading company has volunteered their services for the events, and booking enquiries have been strong.

So come on Coffs Basketball community - here is your opportunity to be involved in the biggest NBL event in Australia.

Don't be shy, don't think you can't contribute - come along on Saturday and find out how you can be involved over the four days.
