Bike rider hit by truck

A bike rider was being treated in hospital last night after he was hit by a truck on the Pacific Highway at Moonee. While details remained sketchy at the time of going to press, police said the collision happened at the Moonee Beach Road intersection at 3.02pm yesterday. Sergeant Graeme Kady said after hitting the rider, the 7.2 tonne truck swerved and rolled over off the western side of the highway. The rider, who was conscious when ambulance officers arrived, suffered head and back injuries. He was taken in a serious condition to Coffs Harbour Health Campus. The truck driver, who was not injured, was out of his vehicle when emergency crews arrived. Police are continuing their inquiries into the cause of the smash. See Monday's Coffs Coast Advocate for more details.
