Big wet not over, more warnings

CONTINUING rain across the Coffs Coast yesterday led to a number of flood warnings being issued by the Bureau of Metereology.

The Orara River catchment is being closely monitored, after a futher 28 millimetres of rain fell in the 12 hours to 6am yesterday.

As a result, the level of the Orara River at Glenreagh fell more slowly than expected, and had reached a minor flood level of 4.46 metres at the bridge at 6am.

While river levels had dropped below minor flood levels after 4pm yesterday, further forecasts for rain meant the Bureau of Meterology issued a minor flood warning for the area at 4.16pm.

Bellingen residents will be glad to know the rainfall in the area eased considerably Monday night and yesterday, with just 5 millimetres falling between 9am and 12 noon yesterday.

The level of the Bellinger River continued to fall, while minor flooding at Thora and Bellingen Bridge was expected into the afternoon.

A flood warning was also issued for the Bellinger River at 1.04pm yesterday, and was expected to remain in place into the afternoon.
