Big haul a surprise for police

ILLICIT drugs, cash, firearms and stolen property ? that's the big haul from a raid at Bellingen this week.

Acting Coffs/Clarence crime co-ordinator, Detective Sergeant Scott Goodhand, hailed as a success a two-week investigation, code-named Operation Sloth, into alleged drug activity in Bellingen's central business district.

Eight police pounced on the town in a dramatic sting on Thursday morning.

At 11am in Oak Street, they arrested a Bellingen man, 39. Officers searched him and allegedly found amphetamines and cash.

They took him to a Hyde Street house where they arrested a Bellingen woman, 37, and a Bellingen man, 51.

During their search of the dwelling, police allegedly uncovered cannabis, amphetamines, cash, two firearms and a large amount of stolen property.

Police interviewed the trio and later charged the 39-year-old with prohibited drug possession and supply, firearms offences and having goods in custody.

He was refused bail to face Coffs Harbour Local Court yesterday.

Police released the other two, pending further inquiries.
