Bello ladies rack up funds with good set
IF Bellingen's CWA ladies had any wobbles when their president Iris Goldstein announced that bras would be front and centre at the group's jazz festival fundraiser, it wasn't obvious last week.
As soon as the Glenreagh Creative Group arrived and started displaying Mount Ever-chest, Sunken Chest, Bob the Builder and the Madonna bras, among many other beautiful sets, there was laughter all around.
The hand-decorated bras were a traffic stopper in Glenreagh in May, when they took to the streets in the name of cancer.
Now 25 are in Bellingen to help raise funds for Shearwater Lodge, the Coffs Harbour accommodation for cancer patients and carers.
"I saw the photo in the paper and thought it was such a good idea and something different," Mrs Goldstein said.
"So I took the plunge and asked if we could borrow them to show along with our tapestries over the weekend."
Christine Guest, the Glenreagh group's president, said the response to the bras had been fantastic.
"The other half of the collection are in Valla as we speak," Mrs Guest said.
"We call the transport vehicle the Bra-mobile and I promise the Big Bra is on its way."
The exhibition is on at the CWA Rooms in Church Street and will be open between 10am and 3pm all weekend. Refreshments will be available.
