Baringa beds to Philippines

BEDS were everywhere yesterday, but no one was lying down as they loaded the beds onto the truck.

Donated by Baringa Private Hospital from the Ramsay Group, 18 hospital beds are now on their way to the Philippines to assist hospitals there with a chronic shortage of beds.

"Some patients there only have mats on the floor to rest on while they are being treated," said Alan Scolari, from Coffs Harbour Pacific City Lions who organised delivery.

"These beds should greatly aid their recovery."

Mr Scolari said this shipment of beds was one of may donations by hospitals in the region he had been involved in.

"We have been responsible for similar donations to Noumea, Vanuatu and the Philippines including wheelchairs, beds, medical and dental equipment," he said.

"I've even sent away an X-ray machine, and they cost a lot of money.

"The hospitals in the region are so used to it now, they con- tact me as soon as they have something they no longer need." The shipment will be received by Philippines Inland and Island Mission in less than a month.
