Another club cops a bashing from thugs

By CRAIG McTEAR

TWO staff had the fright of their lives when three armed men stormed the Coffs Harbour Deep Sea Fishing Club on Tuesday night.

The club was closed at 10.30pm when the bandits smashed their way in through the front door.

Two were armed with knives, while the other had a spear gun, said Coffs Harbour police.

The two employees fled from the building through another door when the men entered, and remain unharmed during the drama.

No patrons were in the premises at the time.

The robbers stole an undisclosed sum of money before running from the club.

Police have seized closed circuit television (CCTV) footage and are continuing their investigations.

However, a detailed description of the trio was not available from police yesterday.

Detective acting inspector Peter O'Reilly would not speculate on a link between the heist and other recent ones at the Park Beach Bowling Club and the Sawtell Bowling Club.

However, he did confirm the bowling club robberies were still under investigation.

If you can help detectives with their inquiries, you are urged to contact Coffs Harbour Police Station on 6652 0299, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Fishing club management was not commenting yesterday.
