She progressed through her opening round under 18 heat comfortably by placing second in her four surfer heat at Ballina's North Wall.

Winning the heat was fellow NSW surfer Sally Fitzgibbons (South Coast) and both will now meet in qualifying round two.

Keighran is one nearly 200 competitors at the titles who are all chasing selection to represent Australia at the 2007 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships to be held in Portugal next May.

This Friday's Coffs Coast Advocate will give a full report on how all the local surfers have fared at the national titles.
