All the weight on Heath?s shoulders
COFFS HARBOUR hockey player Heath Edwards is working hard in the program designed as part of his inclusion in the New South Wales Institute of Sport pre-elite squad.
As part of the NSWIS program, Heath is required to do gym work on an injury prevention strength routine which includes introduction to weights.
This program has been prepared by John Bessell, the NSWIS regional coach who monitors the work of country boys in the squad.
To do his weights work in Coffs Harbour, Heath has joined the Empire Gym at the Jetty and works under the watchful eye of proprietors Shane and Julie Allison.
Chris said he greatly appreciates Shane, Julie and their staff for helping him to understand the exercises which have to be done and for checking to see he is doing them the right way.
"I was stoked when Shane said he would sponsor me for the program and to come in whenever I liked," Heath said.
As well as his gym program, Heath is also doing an endurance run and a few short sprints in a short session once a week.
This is also important for his inclusion in the North Coast Academy of Sport hockey squad to work on his fitness.
The Academy will hold a two-day camp each month at Lismore, Port Macquarie, Grafton and Coffs Harbour.
This program ends with the inter-regional Academy Games in Bathurst at the end of March.
