Adam?s on a winning streak into the final

IN a few weeks' time, Adam Boese will know if he's off to Las Vegas for a crack at $US1million.

That's the prestigious honour awaiting the Boambee 23-year-old if he wins the National Pub Poker League final at the Gold Coast on January 13.

Adam's appearance at the national final is no mean feat, considering he only started playing poker a couple of months ago.

He was at the Sawtell Hotel running the pool competition when his father asked him to come and have a game of poker.

"I said no, because I wasn't really interested," Adam said.

"But I had a couple of games and I loved it. I've been hooked ever since and I play five times a week.

"It's a pretty easy game to pick up. It only took me about a week or so to get my basic knowledge.

"The more you play, the more you get to understand different ways other people play it, which can work to your advantage."

He'll be up against 79 other hotshots at the nationals, after showing his prowess at the regional finals.

"I've got a good chance of winning. It all depends on how the cards fall," Adam said.

Victory will secure him a spot at the Poker Dome Tournament in Las Vegas, where the big money awaits.
