A sign of the times?

NANCY Tigwell can't help but laugh when she goes on her regular walks at Macauleys Beach.

The retired schoolteacher recently discovered a Coffs Harbour City Council prohibition and warning sign with a spelling mistake which sticks out like a sore thumb.

Macauleys Headland, according to the council sign, is actually Macaulies Headland.

"It's obvious the council can't spell," Nancy said.

"I was just amazed. I initially thought someone at the council had investigated and found Macaulies was actually the correct way to spell it."

A Coffs Harbour City Council spokeswoman said yesterday: "The sign is one of those things that has slipped through the net and it is being changed as soon as possible."
