A decade of dawn starts

ABC North Coast's regional program manager Martin Corben will sign off on Friday morning after 11 years of 4.15am starts to present the station's breakfast program.

Popular with many Clarence Valley listeners, Mr Corben is about to take up a new position as online producer at 702 ABC Sydney.

Mr Corben also leaves on a high note; for the past two years ABC North Coast has been a national finalist for best local station.

The station's online producer Jane Munro received similar accolades in Adelaide for best website presence.

Corben started out as a rural reporter and soon was promoted to the management ranks, covering everything from devastating major floods to the thrills and spills of Bangalow's Billycart Derby.

He also was not one to sit in the studio, regularly visiting the Clarence Valley for outside broadcasts or in-depth interviews.

Mr Corben said he was looking forward to a new career challenge within the ABC, but would be taking some great memories with him.

In 2004, Mr Corben and his partner Amanda Kenyon took a year off to travel the world, filing online 'postcards' from Asia and Africa.
