Anthony's world titles make dad proud

A TRIP to the US for the US Open International Sport Karate Association World Championships has paid off for Kaigan Kan Coffs Harbour athletes.

Sensei Ron Abela, son Anthony and Katherine Emerton spent two days competing in Florida along with 4500 athletes from 30 countries.

For Anthony it's a visit that will hold special significance, after he finished first in two events.

One championship medal was for his special event of traditional weapons and the other for musical forms.

He also brought home a fourth place medal for traditional forms.

Katherine was on the podium to receive a third-place trophy for traditional weapons and finished sixth in her traditional forms.

Sensei Ron received a medal for eighth place in his traditional weapons event.

After winning traditional weapons, Anthony was invited to perform on the centre stage in the Night of Victory, a showcase for under-17 winners.
