OOPS! Announcer reads out wrong Miss Universe winner

IT WAS a case of spectacular frocks and jaw-dropping shocks in the 2015 Miss Universe final held in Las Vegas.

Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was crowned the winner, only to discover the host had read out the wrong name.

She then had to hand over her crown to the actual winner, Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.

Announcer Steve Harvey took to Facebook to apologise over the incident.

"I made a terrible mistake tonight in announcing the wrong winner and runner-up for the Miss Universe pageant. I know how much pride many countries, fans and most importantly, the contestants take in preparing for this night. I hope that you can forgive me," he wrote.

"All contestants were amazing but I want to specifically apologize to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines again and wholeheartedly. You both represented well for your countries, families and yourselves."

The road to the Miss Universe crown is never easy. A message from Miss Universe 2015, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
