Angry man shoots at New York Times call for gun reform

THIS is why there is little to no chance of a sensible, cool-headed discussion about gun laws in the United States.

For the first times in close to 100 years, the New York Times last week ran a front-page opinion piece calling for gun reform following the attacks on San Bernardino that killed 14 and injured 17.

In its piece "End the Gun Epidemic in America", it called for "the attention and anger of Americans" to be aimed at politicians who vow to keep citizens safe "but who place a higher premium on money and political power of an industry dedicated to profiting from the unfettered spread of ever more powerful firearms".

Furious right-wing blogger Erick Erickson shared a photo of the newspaper's front page on Twitter -- after he shot it seven times.

He wrote: "The United States suffered its worst terrorist attacks since September 11 and the New York Times' response is that all law-abiding citizens need their guns taken away. Screw them".
 

The New York Times isn't the only major newspaper now firmly calling out lawmakers and the National Rifle Association for stifling any chance of gun reform.

The New York Daily News has run powerful and bold front pages describing the NRA's "sick jihad" over gun laws.
