New Anglican reverend inducted
THE new head of the city’s Anglican congregation is looking forward to not just pastoring to the parish, but caring for the whole community.
The Reverend Ian Mabey was inducted as the 21st Rector of St John The Evangelist on Thursday night, replacing the Reverend Samuel Marsden who has retired and moved to England.
Reverend Mabey has travelled the breadth of the country to take up his new position.
Deaconed in 2001 and priested in 2001 he was formerly the parish priest of Collie, in the diocese of Bunbury in Western Australia.
In that capacity he was also the chaplin to two coal mines.
“It was God’s calling that brought me here,” Reverend Mabey said.
“ It is a much bigger parish and so it is an exciting challenge for me.”Reverend Mabey and his wife Wendy have left their two adult children behind in Western Australia and are looking forward to exploring the natural and spiritual aspects of life on the Coffs Coast.
“It is a delightful and interesting place – a very joyful place – but this post is all about the people, and so far I must say I’ve met a beautiful group of people here.”
