Ange to lead A-League All Stars into battle against Man Utd
THE last time Ange Postecoglou went head-to-head with Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, the dual A-League championship-winning coach was on the wrong end of a 2-0 result.
That loss came when South Melbourne took on the English giants during the inaugural 2000 Fifa World Club Championship in Brazil.
Postecoglou will get a chance to set the record straight after yesterday being named as the coach of the A-League All Stars side to take on the Red Devils at ANZ Stadium on July 20.
"It's a huge thrill. It's a concept that is sure to grow legs and become a mainstay in our calendar," he said.
The Melbourne Victory mentor received 36.8% of the public vote to edge out Western Sydney Wanderers coach Tony Popovic on 36.2%. Mariners boss Graham Arnold polled 15.4%.
Fans will also have a say in selecting the All Stars team to take on Man U.
Votes can be lodged at a-leagueallstars.com.au until April 30, with fans choosing 50% of the players, an expert panel selecting another 20%, a further 20% coming from the Team of the Year and the balance being picked by Postecoglou.
