Andrews denies CFA cost Labor election

Brenda Strong

VICTORIAN Premier Daniel Andrews has dismissed claims his controversial Country Fire Authority policy had an impact on the federal election.

The Andrews government's enterprise bargaining agreement for full-time firefighters led to accusations it was giving too much power to unions. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull campaigned against it.

The swing to Labor was smaller in Victoria than elsewhere except South Australia, where voters moved to the Nick Xenophon Team.

Mr Andrews said it had no impact as Victoria had the highest primary Labor vote on the mainland.
