Fraser worried by RTA 'cutbacks'
COFFS HARBOUR MP Andrew Fraser says he’s deeply worried about ‘cutbacks’ to road maintenance by the RTA.
He’s now approached the Roads Minister, David Borger, requesting his urgent attention to the issue.
“During my travels around my electorate and during recent trips both north and south of Coffs Harbour I have noticed that road maintenance over the Christmas period has been minimal,” Mr Fraser said.
“This is at a time when the Pacific Highway is at its busiest.
“Sources within the RTA have confirmed to me that the RTA had cut road maintenance back to a skeleton crew of only two people during the holiday period covering the area between Kempsey and Grafton.
“This is a disgrace.”
Mr Fraser said that as a result of increased traffic and bad weather, the opportunity to fix potholes as they occurred was not possible.
“We now have the situation where major rebuilding and re-surfacing programs are required,” he said.
“The State Government, in its bid to save money, has basically put lives at risk and increased the repair bill because of the lack of attention to road repairs at the time of initial damage.
“I have written to the Minister for Roads, David Borger, requesting his urgent attention to this matter and demanding to know why road maintenance was cut back.”
