An inspiration in cultural pride

What do you do?

I am the Director of Bularri Muurlay Nyanggan Aboriginal Corporation, which aims to ensure that our Aboriginal communities are strong in terms of both culture and education, thereby being ‘Bularri muurlay nyanggan’ two path strong. To do this we facilitate weekly after school Goori Learning Centres, community Gumbaynggirr language classes and cultural camps.

What’s your favourite part about your job?

My favourite part of my job is witnessing our community’s passion for revitalising Gumbaynggirr language and the pride that our community has in acquiring Gumbaynggirr. Language is core to our culture and who we are as Aboriginal people so to witness our community’s passion for language makes my job awesome.

How to you hope the organisation will grow in coming years?

In the coming years it is my goal that our corporation will expand its operations to areas outside the Coffs Coast and build a successful social enterprise through cultural tourism, the profits of which will sustain and improve our corporation’s core activities and provide jobs for our community.
