$18 million worth of crystal methamphetamine seized

AN ESTIMATED $18 million worth of crystal methamphetamine has been seized by police in the Coffs/Clarence region in the past 18 months.

In the Clarence Valley, police have recorded seizures of up to 285g in Grafton, 230g at Ulmarra, 12g at Maclean and 4g at Yamba, 1g at Nymboida and less than a gram at Iluka.

Coffs/Clarence crime manager Detective Inspector Darren Jameson said more proactive work by local police in relation to drugs including crystal methamphetamine was behind the results.

"We're still seeing the common thread of cannabis use being the escalator to other drugs but ice or crystal meth seizures have been alarming," he said.

"Eighteen million dollars in a small community is quite a large amount. We have a zero tolerance to all drugs."
