All pollies responsible for rail snub
IT'S a kick in the guts to watch this State Government gleefully awarding the tender for the final stage of the duplication of the Gold Coast to Brisbane rail line, just a day after it reaffirmed its support for that region's light rail.
Meanwhile, here on the Coast, our only hope of any sort of influence over the current Labor government - Speaker and Member for Nicklin Peter Wellington - seemingly remains silent.
We expect to be snubbed by Labor, indeed we're used to it.
Labor fast-tracked the population growth of this region by releasing the land for the development of Caloundra South.
It has a responsibility to the people of the Sunshine Coast to provide suitable infrastructure to support this population swell.
As a region, we have bigger and bolder plans than simply relying on a fast train to Brisbane so we can become a dormant commuter suburb.
But this isn't some luxury item. It's basic infrastructure for a growing south-east Queensland.
While our LNP MPs are understandably up in arms today, the truth is, they too did precious little when they were in government to ensure funding for this vital piece of infrastructure was set in stone.
But mark our words sitting Coast MPs, we'll want nothing less than a full commitment to this rail duplication or your scalp next time we go to the polls.
And Mr Wellington, "the people's voice", a comment to your constituents, please.
