Energy teams battle it out

WIRED and abuzz with the power industry's finest, Coffs Harbour is playing host to the Electricity Supply Industry Field Days.

Hosted by Essential Energy, the first day of competition showcased each team's skills, job competency, hazard recognition and teamwork through realistic work situations.

From extinguishing burning vehicles to navigating downed live wires and scaling power poles, the crews have been put to the test.

"This is a unique opportunity for industry professionals to put their practical workplace skills through their paces while also sharing knowledge, developing ideas and working towards a consistent approach to safety," Essential Energy's Mark Mulligan said.

Continuing today at the showground, the Field Days also include members of the rail and water industry and emergency services.
