Alex aims at king of the mountain title in 24-hour contest

MOUNTAIN biker Alex Beedie is ready to soar this weekend.

The Coffs Harbour Cycle Club rider is taking on a mighty challenge, the Australian 24-hour Solo National Championship at Mount Annan.

Club publicist Cassie Cameron said it would be a highlight of Beedie's career.

"Alex has been riding since a young age, enjoying all disciplines of cycling," Ms Cameron said.

"He rides track, road and on the mountain bike," she said.

"The Coffs Harbour Cycle Club sends Alex our support and will be cheering him on and keep a track of his results over the weekend."

Event director Martin Wisata said it needed something special for mountain bikers such as Beedie to take on such a gruelling event.

"The passion for 24-hour solo racing by the top endurance racers in the country will contribute to the exciting racing atmosphere," Mr Wisata said.

Beedie is a member of the Subaru Albion Cycles team.

He had an outstanding weekend at the Bom Bom event in Grafton a fortnight ago where he was a sectional winner.

He has trained for months for this weekend, including the Grafton to Inverell race.

He finished 31st overall in B-grade and was named best junior rider.
