Aldi says no to opening a Bargara store

ALDI says it has "no plans" to open a Bargara store on the site formerly filled by Casts Supa IGA.

The confirmation follows the closure of the liquidated Bargara IGA last month in Bargara Central, on the corner of Bargara Rd and Davidson St.

Speculation soon followed as to which supermarket would occupy the space.

But Aldi said while it was "always eager" to bring its "unique shopping experience" to more Australians, it was not about to lease the shopfront.

"Aldi currently has two stores in the Bundaberg area, at Avoca and Kepnock," an Aldi spokesperson said.

"As our business expands we will continue to investigate new store locations."

The Aldi spokesperson said it knew Bundaberg had a "strong appetite" for an alternative place to shop.

"And that Aldi's presence in the region has helped to drive much needed grocery competition," the spokesperson said.

"However we have no plans to develop a store at the Bargara Central location at this stage."
