Aircraft modellers invade Coffs Harbour

MAGNIFICENT men with their model flying machines will swamp Coffs Harbour this weekend, as the Bananacoast Radio Control Flyers Inc hold their 12th Annual Scale Rally Fly-in.

The two day event, which will be held at the Coffs Harbour Clay Target Club on the Pacific Highway just 16km north of Coffs, is set to attract a huge contingent of aircraft modellers from all over New South Wales.

Aimed at bringing together scale modellers who are passionate enthusiasts of copying full size aircrafts in miniature, the day will showcase all facets of model aircraft, with models ranging from small electric models to mammoth scale aircraft with a wingspan of more than three metres.

Organisers have also promised a wide range of categories in the event, which means the war birds of WWI and WWII are well represented, and civil aviation also showcased.

Competition is set to be stiff, with the cream of the crop on hand - two State champions, a national champion and a world team member have all confirmed to be in attending.

The public are more than welcome to attend, and for the first time will be asked to vote for a 'Public Choice' award to be given to the owner of the most popular aircraft.

The day will begin at 9am on both Saturday and Sunday, and food and drinks will be available.
