AFL match to be played in Coffs

COFFS Harbour’s reputation as a centre for top level sport is growing.

The AFL announced yesterday one of its pre-season matches will be played under the new lights at BCU International Stadium on March 11 or 12.

This will mark the first time elite AFL has been seen in Coffs Harbour since Carlton met the Sydney Swans in 2003.

At this stage, the two combatants for the NAB Challenge match are not known as the teams that play in Coffs will depend on which clubs are still battling it out in the knockout pre-season competition.

The clash will be the climax of an AFL bonanza that is coming to the Coffs Coast in early 2011.

In January, the under-18 state championships will be held before dual Brownlow medallist Adam Goodes and fellow Sydney Swans players come to town in February.
