Accused gunman returns to court

AN ACCUSED gunman, who allegedly shot a man as he sat with his family in a car at Mullaway in January, has reappeared in court.

Daniel John Baird, 20, has been held in custody since his arrest on a charge of shooting with intent to murder.

Police allege Baird shot a 32-year-old man in Darkum Rd on Tuesday, January 8, about 6pm.

The victim was struck in the right side of his face by a single shot, police allege.

Evidence in the case alleges that the man's partner was sitting in the passenger seat of the car at the time, while their children were seated in the rear of the vehicle.

At the time of Baird's arrest, police alleged that the motive was a "former love interest".

Baird was yesterday refused bail to reappear in the Coffs Harbour Local Court on Tuesday, May 28.
