Accused car thief in court

THE woman shot in the face by a police officer during a critical incident in Coffs Harbour earlier this year has faced the local court on motor vehicle theft charges.

Georgia Anne Kirby, 24, and her partner, Bradley James Taylor, 24, of Lara, Victoria, stand accused of stealing a brand new Kia four-wheel-drive after it was allegedly unloaded from a car transporter, parked near a Pacific Hwy car dealership.

Kirby suffered a gunshot wound to the jaw as police officers attempted to arrest the pair in Mikinos St, just after 12.30am.

She was treated at Coffs Harbour Base Hospital and was later airlifted to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital.

Kirby and Taylor were each charged with one count of steal a motor vehicle and another of take and drive conveyance without consent.

Both are yet to enter pleas and were yesterday granted conditional bail to reappear in court on September 26.
