AUSTRALIA'S consumer watchdog is taking Heinz to the Federal Court over its Little Kids Shredz products, accusing the company of misleading parents about the nutritional value of its snacks for toddlers.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission alleges Heinz is marketing the products as healthy options for young children when they are not.
Claims on Shredz packaging that the products were of equivalent nutritional value to fruit and vegetables were misleading, the watchdog said in a statement.
"These products contain over 60% sugar, which is significantly higher than that of natural fruit and vegetables," ACCC chairman Rod Sims said.
The proceedings follow a complaint to the ACCC by the Obesity Policy Coalition.
