Academy search for young talent

THE North Coast Academy of Sport softball program is seeking applications from talented athletes to be part of the 2010-11 program.

Trials will be held at the Kemp Street softball grounds in Kempsey on Sunday, November 28.

Trialists will be put through their paces with skills training, assessment and development.

Following the trials, selectors will meet to name the 2010-11 squad.

For the 2010-11 program, NCAS is set to adopt Softball NSW’s direction to select athletes in the 15-17-years age group.

The 2010-11 program will involve weekly training sessions at local association level as well as training days and combined camps.

The training days and camps will be conducted throughout the North Coast region.

Applications must be received by 5pm Monday, November 22.

To get involved, download the Softball Application Kit at www.ncas.org.au and post or fax to the North Coast Academy of Sport.

Address and postal information is found within the kit.

The NCAS softball program is partnered with Softball NSW and the various regional softball associations located throughout northern NSW.

As well as sport-specific coaching, each squad member and their family will attend a Regional Athlete and Coach Education (RACE) weekend that provides information on subjects such as drugs awareness, injury prevention and management, sports psychology, sports nutrition and public speaking.

NCAS is a non-government and not-for-profit organisation.

NCAS, which is supported by foundation partners NSW Sport & Recreation and Southern Cross University, currently delivers Sport Talent Enhancement Programs (STEPs) to identified junior North Coast athletes across 13 sports.

These including basketball, cycling, golf, hockey, lawn bowling, netball, rowing, rugby, softball, surf life saving, tennis and triathlon.

For further information contact sports liaison officer Chris Little on 02 6620 3073, 0412 693 073 or clittle@ncas.org.au.
