17-year-old surfer didn't mind Tony Abbott "dropping-in"
WHILE Australia's media remained locked in deep analysis about potential negative impacts of former Prime Minister Tony Abbott's lingering presence in Federal Parliament, the man himself was catching waves at Noosa's Tea Tree Bay seemingly without a worry in the world.
The former Coalition leader who was dumped last year in favour of the more electorally popular Malcolm Turnbull, had no shortage of fans himself today keen for an autograph and a photograph.
Finn Massoud, descendent of the pioneering Noosa Massoud family, didn't miss his chance, getting to Mr Abbott just as he was about to leave after a session that saw him catching four-foot walls from the point into the beach at Tea Tree.
"He's not bad,'' was Finn's assessment of the former PM's surfing style.
"Everyone was getting photos. He was out there surfing and doing fine."
Mr Abbott left the water carrying a red board just after midday to make the trek back around to the car park and Hastings Street.
Later photos emerged of Mr Abbott's surf session, via social media.

Ivy Thomas posted an image which she said showed her and Mr Abbott on the same wave.
"So this morning I got dropped in on by the ex Prime Minister of Australia," Ms Thomas posted.
Dropping in basically means taking a wave off another a person and is a real taboo in surfing circles.
The Palm Beach Currumbin High student didn't hold the move against the former Prime Minister.
She told ABC they were both paddling onto a wave, and Mr Abbott stood up just after she did.
"In the photo it looks like I am so not into it and I was so negative about it but I wasn't, I just didn't know how to react," she said.
"He smiled at me and realised that he'd dropped in on me, but I didn't really mind."
Ms Thomas said Mr Abbott was "cheering everyone on to the waves".
"... and he wasn't bad, he was a good surfer - pretty epic."
