Two still in custody after Woolgoolga assault

A SOUTH Grafton man and a Victorian woman have been remanded in custody on charges of assault causing grievous bodily harm following an assault in Woolgoolga.

Brendon Jeffery Benson, 38, of South Grafton and Kristall Margaret Davies, 20, of Somerville, Victoria, appeared in a bail hearing in Grafton Local Court yesterday.

A third person, an 18-year-old man, has also been arrested and charged but was not in court yesterday.

Police said about 1.15am on Tuesday a 41-year-old man was assaulted by three people, one armed with a metal picket, at the car park at Woolgoolga Headland.

The man suffered a fractured fibula, serious lacerations and bruising. The trio left the scene in a car.

The man was able to drag himself back to his car and contacted emergency services. He was conveyed to Coffs Harbour Hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries.

About 11.15am on Tuesday police arrested an 18-year-old man while he was driving his car in Clarence St, Grafton. Shortly afterwards police arrested Benson and Davies at a business in Grafton.

They were taken to Grafton Police Station and charged.

Magistrate Robyn Denes refused the pair bail and their cases have been adjourned to Grafton Local Court on August 5.
